Hello Everyone,
Today I’d like to talk about something that feels very natural at this time of year: spring detox and renewal.

As the days grow lighter and the first warmth returns to the air, many of us begin to feel an urge to refresh our routines, lighten our meals, and clear away what feels stagnant after the winter months.
Across many traditional healing systems, spring is seen as a season of awakening vitality. Nature slowly emerges from its winter rest, and our bodies often crave the same shift. Rather than extreme cleanses or restrictive detox plans, holistic traditions like Ayurveda focus on gentle, nourishing resets that support the body’s natural ability to cleanse and restore balance.
A spring detox doesn’t need to be intense or uncomfortable. In fact, the most effective approach is often the simplest: supporting digestion, encouraging circulation, nourishing the nervous system, and allowing the body to release accumulated heaviness gradually.
In this blog, I’d like to share a gentle 10-day spring detox guide, with practical nutrition tips, herbs, aromatherapy ideas, and supportive holistic treatments that can help you move into the season feeling lighter, clearer, and more energised.
Why Spring Is the Perfect Time for a Detox
In Ayurvedic medicine, winter tends to increase Kapha energy, which is associated with heaviness, moisture, and structure in the body. While Kapha is important for stability and immunity, an excess of it can lead to sluggish digestion, low energy, congestion, or feelings of heaviness.
As spring arrives, warmer temperatures naturally begin to melt this accumulated Kapha. This is why many people experience symptoms such as sinus congestion, allergies, fatigue, or digestive sluggishness during the seasonal transition.
Supporting the body with gentle cleansing practices helps the body adjust smoothly to this shift.
Interestingly, modern research is beginning to confirm what ancient healing systems have long recognised. A study published in Nature Communications found that thousands of human genes show seasonal changes in activity, influencing immune function and overall physiology throughout the year.
When we support these natural rhythms with mindful nutrition and restorative practices, detoxification becomes far more effective and nurturing.
Nourishing the Body During a Spring Detox
The foundation of a gentle, natural body cleanse is digestion.
In Ayurveda, digestive strength is known as agni, often described as the body’s digestive fire. When digestion is balanced, the body can efficiently eliminate toxins while properly absorbing the nutrients it needs.
During a spring detox, it can be helpful to favour foods that are:
• warm • lightly cooked • easy to digest • rich in seasonal vegetables
These kinds of meals help support the digestive system rather than overwhelming it.
One of the simplest ways to support a spring detox is through small, nourishing changes to the foods we eat each day. Seasonal ingredients, digestive spices and gentle herbal support can all help the body release heaviness while strengthening digestion and energy.
Bitter greens such as rocket, dandelion leaves, and kale are particularly supportive in spring because they stimulate bile production and encourage the liver’s natural detoxification processes.

Other seasonal foods can also support gentle cleansing. Asparagus, artichokes and radishes, for example, are traditionally valued for their ability to support liver and digestive health while helping the body release excess water and stagnation after the winter months.
These nourishing foods remind us how powerful plant-based remedies can be when we allow them to support the body’s natural healing processes.
Simple daily rituals can also support digestion. Beginning the day with warm lemon water gently stimulates the digestive system and helps awaken the body after a night’s rest.
Adding fresh ginger to meals or herbal teas can help strengthen digestion, reduce bloating and support circulation. (Spices such as turmeric, cumin and coriander are widely used in Ayurvedic cooking for similar reasons, as they help kindle digestive fire and support the body’s natural detox pathways).
Herbal teas made from peppermint, fennel or dandelion root can also be helpful for supporting digestion and gently encouraging the body’s cleansing processes.
Small, consistent habits like these can make a noticeable difference, helping the digestive system feel lighter and more balanced as the body transitions into the energy of spring.
Timing tip: Try eating your largest meal at lunchtime, when digestion tends to be strongest according to Ayurvedic principles. A lighter evening meal gives the digestive system time to rest overnight, allowing the body to focus on repair and restoration.
Recipe: Spring Greens Detox Soup
One nourishing meal that works beautifully during a detox is a simple spring greens soup. It is warming, light on digestion, and rich in nutrients that support the body’s cleansing pathways.
I often recommend this to clients who want something gentle yet nourishing during a seasonal reset.
Ingredients
1 courgette, roughly chopped
2 celery sticks, sliced
1 handful spinach or kale
1 small piece of fresh ginger, grated
500 ml vegetable stock
juice of half a lemon
olive oil
sea salt and black pepper to taste
Method
Warm a small drizzle of olive oil in a saucepan over a medium heat.Add the celery, courgette and grated ginger and sauté gently for a few minutes until softened.
Pour in the vegetable stock and allow the soup to simmer for around 10–12 minutes.
Add the spinach or kale and cook for another two minutes until wilted.
Blend until smooth if you prefer a creamy texture, or leave slightly chunky for a more rustic soup.
Finish with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and season lightly with sea salt and black pepper.
This soup is wonderfully supportive during a detox as it provides hydration, minerals and gentle nourishment without placing strain on digestion.
A Gentle 10-Day Spring Detox Plan
If you’d like to try a simple seasonal cleanse, here is a gentle 10-day detox plan you can try.

Days 1–3: Lighten the system
Begin with warm lemon water each morning. Focus on simple meals such as soups, steamed vegetables, and whole grains. Reduce heavy foods like dairy, processed sugar, and fried meals.
Days 4–6: Support detox pathways
Introduce kitchari or nourishing grain bowls with seasonal vegetables. Add digestive spices such as turmeric and cumin. Spend time outdoors and include gentle movement such as walking or yoga.
Days 7–8: Encourage circulation and rest
Dry brushing before showering can stimulate lymphatic flow. Herbal teas such as peppermint or ginger can support digestion. This is a wonderful time to receive an Abhyanga massage to encourage detoxification and relaxation.
Days 9–10: Restore and integrate
Gradually reintroduce balanced meals with healthy fats, fresh herbs, and fermented foods. Reflect on how your body feels and notice any changes in energy, digestion, or mood.
My tip: Keep the process gentle and supportive. A spring detox should feel nourishing rather than restrictive, so listen to your body, rest when you need to, and focus on simple habits that help you feel lighter and more balanced.
Supporting Detox Through Holistic Treatments

While nutrition and lifestyle changes support detoxification from within, holistic treatments can also gently assist the process by calming the nervous system and encouraging circulation.
Practices such as personalised consultations help identify your unique constitution and any imbalances that may be affecting your wellbeing.
Treatments like warm oil Abhyanga massage can support relaxation, lymphatic flow and overall balance, while therapies such as Nasya, which uses herbal oils in the nasal passages, are traditionally used to help clear the sinuses and support respiratory health during seasonal transitions.
These kinds of treatments can be especially supportive in spring, when the body is naturally beginning to release the heaviness of winter and shift into a more active rhythm again.
A Season of Renewal
The most important element of any detox is gentleness.
True cleansing is not about restriction or forcing the body to change quickly. Instead, it is about supporting the body’s natural rhythms and allowing space for rest, nourishment and renewal.
Spring reminds us that nature does not rush. The earth slowly warms, plants begin to grow again, and light gradually returns to the landscape. Our bodies respond to these shifts too. When we support digestion, lighten our meals, spend more time outdoors and allow the nervous system to settle, the body naturally begins to release what it no longer needs.
A simple seasonal reset can help restore clarity, energy and balance. Even small changes, such as drinking warm lemon water in the morning, eating lighter meals, or taking time to rest, can create meaningful shifts in how we feel.
As you move through spring, consider this a gentle invitation to reconnect with your body and its rhythms. Notice what feels nourishing, what feels heavy, and what small adjustments might help you feel more aligned with the season ahead.
Sometimes the most powerful healing begins not with doing more, but with slowing down enough to listen.
Wishing you a nourishing and vibrant spring.
